About EI
Ecological Internet (EI) is a non-profit 501c3 that specializes in the use of the Internet to achieve environmental conservation. EI's mission is to empower the global movement for environmental sustainability by providing information retrieval tools, portal services, expert analysis and action opportunities that aid in the protection of climate, forest, ocean and water ecosystems; and to commence the age of ecological sustainability and restoration. New Earth Rising is our newest offering to the global environmental community.
EI has been operating since 1999 and since that time has built the most comprehensive and popular environmental portals and search engines in existence. We have a long-time history of innovation on the Internet, having established the world's first web blog in 1993, the first environmental search engines in 1999, and maintaining the world's largest and most used environmental portals since. The most important in our group of portals is the “Climate Ark” site at http://www.climateark.org/, established in 1999, which is the leading climate change portal on the Internet. We also carry out demonstration projects in ecological restoration at our office.
EI has a long track record of success in achieving many environmental conservation victories around the world. We have many assets including excellent brand name recognition, immense intellectual capital in our informatics processes and data holdings, high-end computer servers, and an established record of providing environmental portal services including true search engine, news tracking, action opportunities, biocentric analysis and more.
We are an independent, grassroots organization who fights to reduce climate change and other ecological damange by supporting community participation in environmental decision-making, providing accurate and unbiased information, and by empowering civil society and global citizens with tools and access to an unprecedented international network of supporters. We serve as a network hub in providing sufficient environmental policy recommendations and action and information tools. We have constructed the world's first dedicated environmental search engine making the full content of reviewed, authoritative information fully searchable -- over 4 million URLs, and have archived climate news for 10 years.
EI popularizes environmental conservation information through an extensive global network of environmental activists. Our international email network is some 75,000 strong, covering most countries. Virtually every major environmental organization in the world participates in our network; sending information, providing alert possibilities, and using the portals. We specialize in identifying pertinent topics which have a small campaign nucleus and internationalizing the issue, which enables the formation of new groups and assists established groups to take on ground-breaking campaigns.
Dr. Glen Barry is the President and Founder of Ecological Internet (EI) and Editor of New Earth Rising. Dr. Barry is recognized internationally by the environmental movement as a leading public intellectual and global visionary committed to communicating the severity of global ecological crises and actively organizing with others sufficient responses. He is a conservation biologist and political ecologist, a writer of essays and blogs, and a computer specialist and technology researcher. Dr. Barry holds a Ph.D. in "Land Resources" from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Masters of Science in "Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development" also from Madison, and a Bachelor of Arts in "Political Science" from Marquette University.
